This year, join with me in making a resolution to help those around the world who thirst for safe water. With your help, New Year’s Eve could be a night that promises more than 200,000 people the life-saving gift they’ve been hoping for. Here’s how it works:

On behalf of those who have no voice, will you RAISE YOUR GLASS with me this New Year? Will you resolve to do all you can to bring safe water to those without in 2010?

Will you begin by joining me and my family by giving a $10 donation by New Year’s day? And then share your resolution with others, encouraging them to make a toast and a gift to the nearly one billion people who lack access to safe drinking water? If your on a mobile device, text message your donation by Texting WMI to 85944 and replying Yes.

I RAISE MY GLASS this New Year and I wish you and your’s a happy and safe New Year!

Have you ever heard the saying, “He has a good heart?” And if someone does something he shouldn’t have and it will be said, “But, he has a good heart.” Does he really? I guess I just have to believe that the condition of my heart has a real impact on my actions.

What are we talking about when we talk about our heart? It’s obvious we aren’t talking about a muscle that pumps blood. My thought is that my heart is different than my brain because my brain might cause me to do something that is logical even if it might not be the right thing to do. My heart, on the other hand might cause me to do something that wouldn’t be considered logical by most, but it might be the compassionate thing; the kind thing; the right thing to do. Someone recently told me, “Heart doesn’t make you special but lack of it will eliminate the opportunity to be special.”

I was reminded today that I needed to give an update on the humanitarian aid project I was working on with Nathan Davis (@mediapeople). The project really is for a much, much bigger movement of this game changing venture entitled “What If The Church”.

What if the Church, those who follow Christ, decided to proclaim Christ to the 884 million people in this world that have no access to safe water? What if the Church acted like Jesus and actually SERVED those without safe water? What if the Church decided to do EVERYTHING within its power to bring them safe water to those without? What if the Church decided to wipe out this problem? What would that look like? Would that make a difference? Would they see Jesus? What If we could change the outcome of the global humanitarian crisis?

The last two weeks I have been secretly working on a video project for a great non-profit which is all about humanitarian aid. The project is a piece of a much, much bigger movement. Nathan Davis (@mediapeople), a great friend is over seeing the illustration and the web development of this game changing venture. The details will be unveiled soon but wanted to give a little sneak peek and pose the question, “What If” we could change the outcome of the global humanitarian crisis?

Discerning rumor from truth is difficult when it about water today. The harsh reality is shortages, evidence of reservoirs and aquifers drying up, and of course, plenty of people who simply don’t care.

ONE IN SIX PEOPLE ON THE PLANET DON’T HAVE
ACCESS TO SAFE, CLEAN DRINKING WATER.

It’s hard to think about it when you’re a world away, but the truth is your not. Right now according to the Water Quality & Health in the western world, right here in the United States, we have more people than our current water supply can adequately support.

I have been passionate about missions and humanitarian outreach to bring about change and awareness in the world. I give regularly to NPO’s, donate time and talents but I have been wanting to do more. Then I got an email from my friend Shawn.

He emailed a group of us and shared an idea with us; an idea to drink water to give water.

The bottomline, Water is at the heart of a daily crisis faced by a billion of the world’s most vulnerable people—a crisis that threatens life and destroys livelihoods on a devastating scale. The glass is half empty!

What can we do to help? Cinco De Mayo is one day of the year when more non-water liquid consumption is done than any other day of the year. People will be funneling more liquor on that day than most people of a third world country will have water in a month. What is your non-water beverage consumption?

The challenge is simple! Skip all non-water beverages for 5 days in May. May 1-5 to be exact. That means I will not be drinking my morning Tea, not having my midday expresso pick me up, or having my random Ice-Tea’s throughout the day. What I will be drinking is water. Saving the money I would have spent and then donating the saved funds to Water Missions International.

What does that cost for 5 Days for you? I can tell you I spend more than $50-Dollars on drinks from Starbucks to Sonic in one week. That $50-Dollars could give more than 5 people clean drinking water for the rest of their lives.

What if we all did it? Drank Water to Give Water? What if for 5 days we could get 600 of our friends to join in? That would mean an entire community of 3000 people would have clean drinking water for the rest of their lives.

Water. It is at the heart of a daily crisis faced by a billion of the world’s most vulnerable people—a crisis that threatens life and destroys livelihoods on a devastating scale. The glass is half empty!

ONE IN SIX PEOPLE ON THE PLANET DON’T HAVE

ACCESS TO SAFE, CLEAN DRINKING WATER.

Unlike war and terrorism, the global water crisis does not make media headlines, despite the fact that it claims more lives through disease than any war claims through guns. Unlike natural disasters, it does not rally concerted international action, despite the fact that more people die each year from drinking dirty water than from the world’s hurricanes, floods, tsunamis, and earthquakes combined.

OUR PLANET IS 70% WATER.97.5% OF THAT IS SALTWATER.

THIS MEANS ONLY 2.5% IS AVAILABLE FOR THE 6 BILLION PEOPLE ON THE PLANET TODAY

This is a silent crisis experienced by the poor, and tolerated by those with the resources, technology, and the political power to end it. Yet this is a crisis that is holding back human progress, consigning large segments of humanity to lives of poverty, vulnerability, and insecurity.

Then together we will be donating the saved funds to Water Missions International.

This evening I received an email from my friend @shawnwood inviting me to a challenge, a challenge to change the lives of people in third world countries.

I’m sure I don’t have to make you aware of the water crisis in third world countries, but just incase humor me for a few sentences. A water crisis of catastrophic proportions is about to explode. Fresh water is a finite resource. The amount of fresh water supply does not increase. No matter where you are on this planet water is an integral part of our lives. Yet people are going days even weeks without water or drink contaminated water.

It wasn’t till I saw this picture taken at 9:00 by @jerryminer, that I knew something had to happen. The funny thing is as Jerry took that picture he knew it would be the last time this little boy had to drink this noxious water.

And in only a matter of hours later, lives were changed with clean water as people smiled as Jerry took this photo.

So here comes the challenge:

The average American drinks 420 ounces of canned soft drinks a week.
I go to Starbucks a lot, almost 2 times a day, thats 10 times a week.
And my firends drink at least one Iced-Tea every day.

What does that cost for 5 Days?

30 cans of soda = $15.00
3 trips to Starbucks = $10.00
5 fountain drink = $8.75

$43.75 could give 5 people clean drinking water for the rest of their lives.

What if we all did it?
Drank Water to Give Water?
What if for 5 days we could get 600 of our friends to join in?
That would mean an entire community of 3000 people would have clean drinking water for the rest of their lives.
