Been thinking a lot lately on the calling on my life and the dream God has given me. It’s a BIG dream! With big dreams come huge desire, needs, wants, and what is needed more than anything is taking risks that are calculated and the majority that are not so calculated. Who am I kidding those risks cannot even be quantified.
Generally speaking, when it comes to taking risks, a lot of us have a wacked out perspective. Many of us fear dying in a plane crash, but the odds against that are 25 million to 1. A person is more likely to be kicked to death by a donkey than to die in a plane crash. Another common fear is being murdered. Yet, a person is 8 times more likely to die while playing a sport than to be shot by a stranger. What is it that keeps you from moving forward? Is it the fear of failure, embarrassment, or rejection? Is it the uncertainty of the outcome that stops you?
What prevents us from taking risk or stops us is really what kills or desires: loss of hope, refusal for responsibility, and that we love complacency. I’m reminded of the Healing of the Man at Bethesda (John 5:1-15) where Jesus focuses on a man who had given up all hope. The man didn’t know who Jesus was and perhaps the lesson is that God’s sovereignty, plan and purpose are bigger than human need.
I decided to get off my mat almost three years ago from complacency and walk. There have been a lot of risks, but a lot of rewards through determination. Are you determined? I am! I’m doing what I can do and I have hope and Faith that God will make up the difference.
