Apparently the national economists believe we can spend our way out of this recession. It doesn’t make any sense to me but maybe they’re right. I certainly don’t consider myself to be an economist.
I am convinced, though, that it is possible to spend our way out of some difficulties. For example, I think if we are feeling low, we can feel better if we “spend” ourselves in an effort to make others feel better. I believe we can minimize the impact of pessimism in our environment by sewing positive seeds. I even believe that when our finances are limited, somehow we can benefit by being generous with those who have even less.
These behaviors and attitudes may not have any impact on the national economy, but they certainly can improve the journey as we travel through these difficult times.
